Huge main event announced for NJPW’s G1 Special in San Francisco

Coming off the excellent Dominion show, New Japan Pro Wrestling has confirmed the main event for their return to the United States.

Cody Rhodes will challenge Kenny Omega for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at the G1 Special in San Francisco at the Cow Palace. It was clear to fans watching the Dominion show that Rhodes would be the next opponent when he teased walking in the ring during Omega’s title win celebration. Rhodes won their first encounter at the ROH Supercard Of Honor show in New Orleans during WrestleMania weekend.

NJPW also announced that Kazuchika Okada and Will Ospreay will team up against Tetsuya Naito and BUSHI. Juice Robinson will challenge for Jay White’s IWGP United States Championship. The Young Bucks will defend the IWGP Tag Team Championships against SANADA and EVIL in a rematch from Dominion.

It looks like Chris Jericho and EVIL will wrestle each other soon but it does not look like the match will take place in San Francisco. The G1 Special in San Francisco will air live on 7/7 at 8 pm eastern on AXS TV.
