Meltzer noted that Lesnar signed a new deal “at a higher rate” and, despite what has been previously reported, it was not an extension of his current deal. It’s unclear if this new deal is just for one match or if he is sticking around for more dates. At this point, his name is not in the USADA testing pool for MMA so if he is going to fight again then it wouldn’t be for at least 6 months.
When Reigns arrived at the Superdome on Sunday, he was under the impression that he was going to win the Universal Championship but Meltzer does not know if he was upset when he was told that plans changed. Vince McMahon’s plan is to still go with Reigns as champion at some point. It’s not for sure if the title change will happen at The Greatest Royal Rumble show in Saudi Arabia. Lesnar agreed to stay on the day of the Raw go-home show but he did not sign his new deal until the day of WrestleMania.
Most of the people backstage were surprised by the finish because nobody was told anything. Only a small group of people knew. In fact, the referee was not told until he got into the ring. Lesnar did not go into business for himself when he busted Reigns open during the final minutes of the match.
It’s not clear what exactly happened backstage after the show but it’s always possible that they were working the boys when Lesnar tossed the belt in the direction of Vince McMahon.
