Cody Rhodes recently spoke with Justin Barrasso of SI.com about his career. During the interview, he was asked about WWE not allowing him to use the Rhodes name while he is wrestling due to it being an intellectual property owned by the company. “I’ll tell you this, and I’ve not told anyone this, but I don’t mind that WWE took away my last name. Deep down, in my bones, I definitely want it back – and I have plans to get it back – but there is something to being Cody.” He said that the longer he doesn’t have a last name the more he is ok with it. He said that is not to say that WWE is holding the name ransom because it’s literally an intellectual property law that easily can be remedied. He said that there is something about being Cody that he doesn’t mind. He said that there is something to not always remind people of a show they’ve already seen but to instead embrace the one right in front of them. He promised that the future is going to be even better than the past.
Rhodes is currently working for several companies (Impact Wrestling, ROH, NJPW) including indie promotions. However, he plans to slow down and reduce his schedule. “I’m about to make a decision. It’s been really fun to cross all the streams, but at this point I do need to find a new home.” He said that is going to limit all of the distance he covers. He added that if you see his name on a card then come out to the event because he is not sure how much longer it will be until he is no longer able to roam around.
