CM Punk and Colt Cabana scored a huge victory in court this week when a jury deliberated for two hours and came back with a verdict that they didn’t owe Dr. Chris Amann anything after the four-year defamation lawsuit against them.
As Colt Cabana allows these recent events to really digest, he can look back and see the moment when he knew that things were going his way.
“I said to myself ‘I think we have this right now’ when my lawyer and Punk’s lawyer got very excited about him saying HIPPA and them coming out with and introducing the NXT group text chat that saw him and Jericho talking about Punk’s medical relationship.” Colt Cabana said on Wrestling Observer Live. “I’d never seen it but my lawyer goes, ‘watch this’ kinda pats me and is like, ‘you’re gonna want to see this play out.’ I was like, ‘oo alright.'”
“And I saw my lawyer say to Punk’s lawyer say like, ‘no you bring it up have fun.’ Because he was going to bring it up in cross-examination. So that was the thing I saw where my lawyer said this was a home run.”
He also reaveled that while he didn’t know about it at the time when the jury came out after deliberation they wondered why Colt Cabana was a part of this lawsuit at all. He also said the issue of Dr. Chris Amann giving CM Punk prescriptions and having conversations with other doctors about Punk and this whole time there was a blank piece of paper submitted to evidence representing CM Punk’s medical history.
In the end, this victory for CM Punk and Colt Cabana was a big win for them. But it could also be an even bigger win in the realm of free-speech and expression. Colt Cabana never took down his 2-part Art Of Wrestling podcast and stood firm. Now they’re free and clear not owing Chris Amann anything but he kind of knew they were in the clear once Dr. Amann started admitting to some less-than-by the book practices.
