Live event match line-ups reveal potential WWE Backlash matches for next month

We already know that Jinder Mahal will be challenging Randy Orton for the WWE Championship at WWE Backlash on 5/21. WWE has not announced any other matches for the show but the upcoming Smackdown Live event match-ups should give you a glimpse into what they have planned for Backlash:

Randy Orton vs. AJ Styles will headline the live events. Obviously, they will not face off at Backlash but that’s a stronger match to sell tickets at the live events. At this point, they would be crazy to headline the live events with Mahal on top. It’s not so crazy to do it at Backlash because most of the tickets for that show were sold before fans knew that Mahal would challenge Orton.

Also, Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn for the U.S. title is another match that will take place at the live events so we may be getting that match again on TV. The Usos vs. American Alpha vs. The Colons are booked and it’s looking like we’ll get that match or a version of that match at Backlash. The Usos will be booked against the New Day when Kofi Kingston’s ankle heals up.

Also, Naomi will defend the Smackdown Women’s Championship against Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, Natalya and Carmella but on TV they are building towards Naomi vs. Charlotte. Also, Luke Harper will face Erick Rowan and Dolph Ziggler will face Shinsuke Nakamura. Nakamura-Ziggler is another likely match for Backlash. They wrestled in the dark match after the Smackdown/205 Live broadcast.

After refereeing one match Shawn Michaels says, "I'm too old for this sh*t"
