As we first reported on Monday night, a deal was worked out between Matt Hardy and Impact Wrestling that would him to use the “Broken” Matt Hardy character on WWE TV. Hardy has been using the #Woken hashtag on social media so it could end up being a modified version of the character. Presumably, this means that we could see other characters like King Maxel, Queen Rebecca, Senor Benjamin and Brother Nero (when he is healed up) on WWE programming in the future.
Things seemed to be smoothed over last week because Nordholm retweeted a tweet from Matt Hardy’s timeline that was plugging a Wizard World Convention autograph signing.
Ed Nordholm gave the following statement to Sports Illustrated:
“We have seen the character development and will be interested to see where they take the concept. Our new talent agreements all incorporate language that allow talent to continue to use their IMPACT persona after they leave the company. We are working with our legal team to amend our existing agreements to extend this to all of our current and former talent.”
I think there was a feeling within Impact Wrestling that they needed to make things right and escape some of the negative press that came along with the public legal battle against The Hardys. For the sake of Impact Wrestling’s future and perception amongst fans, I think they did the right thing and they should be commended.
