We noted earlier this week that the Nationwide Arena is advertising a Fatal 5-Way for the WWE Championship for the Fastlane pay-per-view on March 11. Clearly, that’s the current plan but if they need to swap someone out of the match (ie. the winner of the Royal Rumble) then that is always a possibility. The Nationwide Arena has posted the Fastlane commercial (see below) online. It’s a generic ad but their website is still advertising the Fatal 5-Way. The 5-Way match lists AJ Styles as the champion vs. Randy Orton vs. Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn.
That would seem to eliminate Orton, Nakamura, Owens, and Zayn as potential winners of the Royal Rumble unless one of those names is swapped out of the Fastlane match. It’s worth noting, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, that there’s been a lot of speculation (only speculation) about Nakamura winning the Rumble.
I think it would be a horrible idea to have Reigns win the Rumble because he will be booed out of the building in Philadelphia. What the could do is they could have the winner of the Rumble challenge for Styles’ WWE Championship and then they can do something on Raw to determine the next challenger for Brock Lesnar’s Universal Championship.
Here is the generic promo for Fastlane:
