Earlier this week, we reported that Impact Wrestling would be using local staff at the upcoming Bound For Glory pay-per-view and Impact Wrestling tapings. The reason for that is so that they can cut down on travel costs and using more Canadian workers allows them to get a tax credit.
Referees Brian Hebner, Robert King and Brian Stiffler announced their departures this week and Pro Wrestling Sheet confirmed that Earl Hebner is also gone. Hebner got his start in the wrestling business in the late 70’s as part of Jim Crockett Promotions. He worked for the WWF/WWE from 1988-2005 and he had worked for Impact Wrestling since 2006. Hebner is one of the most well-known referees in the wrestling business. Old school fans may remember him for the famous twin referee angle from 1988 that led to Andre The Giant winning the WWE Championship before surrendering it to Ted DiBiase. If you were a fan in the late 90’s then you will remember Hebner as the referee for the infamous Montreal Screwjob at Survivor Series 1997.
I would not be surprised if there are more releases in the coming days and we should know what the roster will look like by Sunday night based on who is and isn’t flown in for the pay-per-view and tapings. As we noted on Wednesday night, a top Impact Wrestling star could be on his way out by next week. Click here to read more. Also, ring announcer Dave Penzer and Braxton Sutter are not being flown into Ottawa so they might be done with the company.
