Rey Mysterio, who is arguably the biggest free agent name available right now, doesn’t seem like he will land with one of the national promotions right now.
As first reported by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the talks between GFW and Mysterio have fallen through and the same can be said for his talks with WWE. Unless he drops his booking fee, said to be $10,000 per match, it doesn’t look likely that we’ll see him in a company like Ring Of Honor or New Japan Pro Wrestling anytime soon. It’s worth noting that there haven’t been any reports on interest from NJPW but it would make sense for them to reach out to him since they are looking to expand in the United States and the same could be said for Ring Of Honor.
He is still getting plenty of bookings but the money he is making now would not reach the seven-figure annual money he would get if he signed a WWE contract. He also lives a superstar lifestyle so a WWE contract would probably suit him better financially. Still, I am a little bit surprised that there hasn’t been more talk (at least publicly) of a potential signing with NJPW and/or ROH. During the recent GFW/Impact conference call, Konnan said that he was very involved with the Mysterio talks. He said that although those talks broke down, he hopes that Mysterio could eventually sign with GFW in the future.
These days, Mysterio is moving around much better and he looked great during his match with Will Ospreay at WCPW’s Pro Wrestling World Cup 17.
