Mike Bennett and Maria Kanellis have signed a WWE deal, according to Pro Wrestling Torch. It was reported a few weeks ago that Bennett and Kanellis were keeping quiet on their future plans but they had a destination. The speculation at the time was that they were WWE-bound. Prior to the Torch’s report, Sportskeeda reported on Monday night that the couple was close to signing or may have already signed.
There was apparently an offer on the table from Impact Wrestling but the WWE offer was more appealing. They are expected to go to Smackdown Live. As of this writing, there is no word on when they will start on Smackdown Live.
I am kind of surprised that they are going to bypass NXT. There are many names (Bobby Roode, Shinsuke Nakamura, Drew Galloway, etc.) that could have bypassed NXT for the main roster but they were used in NXT to help sell tickets and work with the younger talent. Kanellis and Bennett are getting fast-tracked to the main roster. Kanellis last worked for WWE in 2010.
I should note that WWE has announced that Kevin Owens has issued a “Face of America Open Challenge” for tonight’s Smackdown Live so that could be when Bennett makes his debut.
