The announcement by WWE that Nia Jax would be defending the Raw Women’s Championship against Ronda Rousey came as a surprise to many people in the company because the feeling was that Rousey would not be in the title mix until later this year or during WrestleMania season.
There has been talk of turning Jax heel and eventually aligning with Stephanie McMahon because they do want to resume the McMahon vs. Rousey feud in a few months. McMahon will be in the evil Vince McMahon role from the 90’s where she sets up different scenarios and matches where the odds are stacked against her.
As noted before, part of the reason for the Ronda Rousey vs. Stephanie McMahon feud is to elevate McMahon into a bigger mainstream star because she is essentially the face of the company at many events and presentations.
Jax is a babyface because the company likes to have her speak at appearances about body shaming, bullying and how the company has progressed with the way women are portrayed on their programming. On the other hand, Vince McMahon prefers her as a monster heel and that’s the reason why they announce her weight during her entrance. McMahon believes that announcing her weight just adds more emphasis to how scary she is for her opponents (ie a female version of Vader or a new version of Kharma/Awesome Kong).
Natalya is also heavily rumored to be turning heel on Rousey. They have continued her real-life friendship with Rousey in anticipation for the day when she turns on her.
