For the last few weeks, we’ve been reporting on the Impact Wrestling departures. Most, if not all, of the recent departures, have been due to cost-cutting as the company looks to get rid of their the big money contracts. It’s tough to keep up with the departures because it seems like people are leaving on a weekly basis.
As many of you know by now, the contracts of EC3 and Bobby Lashley are due to expire soon. The latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter had a brief news item on Lashley and EC3. Dave Meltzer wrote, “The expectation is that Bobby Lashley and Ethan Carter III will leave when their contracts are up, and one or both will end up with WWE.”
So it looks like WWE could have two more former World Champions on their roster within the next few months. Lashley seems to be winding down his career in Mixed Martial Arts and has expressed interest in a match with Brock Lesnar. EC3 could, in theory, sign with WWE and keep his name if WWE wants to use it because Impact is now allowing wrestlers to keep their gimmicks. EC3, who some of you might remember as Derrick Bateman, was in WWE’s developmental system several years ago and was released from NXT in 2013.
