There was an update on the Laurel Van Ness/Impact Wrestling story on Sunday’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The original story that came out a few days ago claimed that she asked to be released and then Impact Wrestling put the Knockouts Championship on her. What actually happened was that she asked to be released on the same night that she was booked to win the title. This happened at the last Impact tapings and the title change has yet to air on TV. It does put the company in a bad situation but she could always drop the title at an independent show or at the January TV tapings. Once she drops the title then it’s likely that she’ll get her release.
There’s no word on why she wants to get her release but, given that she is probably on WWE’s radar, I would not be surprised if she was offered a contract by them. WWE would not get into serious negotiations with her unless she was free and clear from her Impact Wrestling commitments. Her boyfriend Zack Ryder also works for WWE.
