Earlier this week, we noted that the Raw commentators were told to put over how Roman Reigns was screwed out of the WWE Universal Championship. Corey Graves, as a heel, even said as much despite the fact that it would not make sense for him to put Reigns over in that way.
In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer confirmed that the idea for SummerSlam is indeed Lesnar defending the title against Reigns. However, it was noted that the match is not 100 percent confirmed as a few days ago and Vince McMahon can always change his mind so there are several directions this could go.
The main thing to consider is that the booking doesn’t matter as much as it did before. The company used to heavily rely on pay-per-view revenue so they would have to put on the best drawing matches on top but that is no longer the case. Vince McMahon changes his mind all of the time so anything is possible but, as of this week, Lesnar vs. Reigns is the idea.
If Lesnar joins the USADA testing pool by June 30, then that would make him eligible to fight at the 12/30 UFC show in Las Vegas. If that happens, then it would be more likely that he’ll drop the title at SummerSlam. If Lesnar joins the testing pool then it would seem likely that he would be in attendance at the 7/7 UFC show because the big rumor is that, if he fights again, he would take on the winner of the Daniel Cormier vs. Stipe Miocic fight that takes place on that night.
At this point, it’s unclear what any of this means for Paul Heyman. He has expressed interest in being the advocate for Ronda Rousey but WWE doesn’t want to go in that direction since she is being groomed as the top babyface ahead of WrestleMania 35.
