As we noted a couple of days ago, the advertised main event for the Extreme Rules pay-per-view in July is listed as AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Baron Corbin in a Triple Threat Match. The Superstar Shake-Up is coming on Monday so that could mean that all three of those Superstars will be staying on Smackdown Live or the advertisement was sent out before they locked in plans for the Shake-Up.
It’s been reported in the past that people in management see Corbin as a star. In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that Vince McMahon is still highest on Corbin as a future major player.
The 33-year old seemed to be in line for a main event push a few months ago but things have stalled in recent months and he was not in treated as a major player on this year’s WrestleMania.
The fact that McMahon is still high on Corbin doesn’t come as a surprise since he is tall, one of the things that McMahon looks for when he determines who he thinks deserves a push. There are exceptions but the look still trumps in-ring ability in McMahon’s eyes.
