The biggest news story coming out of WrestleMania is Brock Lesnar’s win over Roman Reigns and the decision leading up to the change of plans.
On Thursday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about the plans for the Universal Championship. Sunday’s outcome should serve as further proof that Vince McMahon can change his mind at any time and sometimes plans can change just hours before the show.
Basically, the feeling was that it wasn’t a good idea for a title change at Mania because the crowd didn’t want to see Reigns as champion. WWE did everything possible during the weeks leading up to the show including branding Lesnar as a guy that didn’t care about the fans because he’s a part-timer.
Reigns could still win the title at The Greatest Royal Rumble show in Saudi Arabia where he is likely to get a better reaction. However, it’s not clear how long Lesnar’s new deal is so it’s not guaranteed that a title change would take place on that show. I should note that back in January when WWE was in talks to bring back Bobby Lashley, there were talks for a Lashley vs. Lesnar match at SummerSlam. Lashley has said publicly that he would like a match with Lesnar.
