Former WWE Champion AJ Styles recently spoke with Rock 100.5’s Bailey And Southside to promote the SmackDown TV event in Atlanta, Georgia. During the interview, Styles openly talked about how many fans of pro wrestling have looked forward to him wrestling Shinsuke Nakamura in WWE. Styles and Nakamura had a classic match in January of 2016 at Wrestle Kingdom 10 in the Tokyo Dome for the IWGP Intercontinental Championship. Styles came up short in the match as Nakamura retained the championship. Now that Nakamura is on the main roster and both Superstars are featured on SmackDown Live, fans believe now is the right time to see them wrestle each other again.
Styles said that a lot of people want to see himself and Nakamura in the ring. “We have done it before for a different company, but never in WWE. I think something like that is going to happen.” Styles added, “It has to.”
Along with his in-ring skills, Nakamura’s entrance is a big part of his act, which has carried over from NJPW to WWE. Styles said that Nakamura is a difference cat and he’s a big Michael Jackson fan. He noted that Nakamura is an MMA guy as he knows some techniques and will kick your head off. He added that he’s kind of a bad dude despite the fact that his stuff is Michael Jackson and that it doesn’t come off as very intimidating.
Styles also discussed Kevin Owens, Chris Jericho, traveling to Japan and more. You can watch the interview here:
