Now that CM Punk has the court case against Dr. Chris Amann in his rear view, the big question that fans are wanting to ask is whether he will wrestle again.
MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani spoke with Punk ahead of his fight at UFC 225 in Chicago on Saturday and he asked him if he could address the rumors about a possible appearance at the All In show on 9/1. Punk said, “I’m not not addressing it. It’s not happening.”
Helwani asked Punk if an offer has been made for him to wrestle again. Punk said, “Nobody has ever asked me – like straight up asked me to come wrestle for them. Nobody. There’s been ‘oh hey, if you ever wanna do anything’ and I know what this is gonna sound like to a lot of people and everyone is gonna find a way to spin it.”
Punk said that nobody has ever gone up to him with a solid offer. Helwani asked him if he was open to wrestling if he got a real offer. He said, “I don’t think so but it’s a hard question to answer. A lot has happened this week. I can definitely tell you if you asked me that question a week ago when felt like I still had a foot in the grave so to speak, the answer is no I don’t want anything to do with it. I feel like I’m out and the future has yet to be written. It’s a wide open book, it’s my story to tell. I’m just being real.”
He ended by saying, “I’m not gonna sit here and be like ‘no, no.’ Something might come up, some fun might be had but right now my head and my mind and my focus is 100 percent on Saturday and fighting so does that mean fighting beyond Saturday? To me, yes.”
During the interview, Punk also talked about his upcoming fight on Saturday with Mike Jackson, winning the defamation lawsuit against WWE doctor Chris Amann, and more. The comments about a potential wrestling return are during the final couple of minutes of the interview.
If you are a fan of Punk that wants to see him wrestle again then you will probably be satisfied with his answer because there was a time when he had the door completely shut on a potential return to the ring. Time can heal wounds. In this case, I don’t see him returning to WWE but independent wrestling is hotter than it’s ever been and I would be shocked if he didn’t get an offer from a top indy company or a major group like Ring Of Honor or New Japan Pro Wrestling.
