WWE is always looking to be on the cutting edge of entertainment and how someone can take in their product and now it looks like they’re going to be capitalizing on another growing market in virtual reality.
In the past couple of years, advancements in technology have made virtual reality even more of a plausible reality which could become a major player in how people consume their entertainment choices in the future. Just imagine not having to drive to an arena to watch WWE or see a concert because you paid for a virtual reality ticket so all you have to do is put on your headset and it’s like you are there live. Except when the show is over, you just take off your headset instead of having to deal with traffic.
It might not be to the point where arenas all over the place are installing stationary VR cameras to lease out to ticket brokers just yet. But WWE is probably going to be there if it happens.
There were some VR cameras floating around the crowd at Survivor Series, but nobody made much of it although people who have their pulse on the evolution of the media certainly saw the writing on the wall that WWE was about to step up their game once again. In a press release sent out today, WWE announced an exciting step in becoming a company with much more virtual reality content.
NextVR and WWE Bring Fans Closer to the Action with Virtual Reality
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. & STAMFORD, Conn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– NextVR, the leader in broadcasting live events in virtual reality, and WWE today announced a new partnership to bring fans unique WWE experiences in virtual reality, featuring highlights from select 2018 WWE special events.
The virtual reality experiences will be approximately 10 minutes in length and available for free to fans globally on a new WWE channel within the NextVR app following each event. The content will provide fans with a completely new experience, featuring highlights from WWE’s biggest events including the excitement of the fans, athleticism of WWE’s larger-than-life Superstars, pivotal moments, epic showdowns and surprise appearances, giving them the opportunity to see the action as if they were there live.

For each production, NextVR will work alongside WWE’s award-winning TV and production team to position NextVR’s custom virtual reality cameras throughout each event to capture the most immersive views of WWE action.
Fans with a Samsung GearVR headset or Google Daydream View, along with a compatible smartphone, PlayStation VR, or Windows Mixed Reality can download the free NextVR app from the corresponding platform store to access the free highlights.
