Paige was announced as the new Smackdown Live General Manager and her first order of business was to set up a dream match. She announced that Daniel Bryan would be wrestling in the main event of the show but before she could announce his opponent, the fans started to chant for Rusev. There were loud “Rusev Day” chants in the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.
Paige paused and the fans finally chanted for AJ Styles so things worked out for them but, apparently, WWE was not happy with the “Rusev Day” chants.
As you can see below, the YouTube version of Paige’s segment was dubbed. You can clearly see fans chanting for Rusev but the audio was of fans chanting for AJ Styles.
I know WWE had things already planned for Styles vs. Bryan but removing the “Rusev Day” chants seemed a little unnecessary. Hopefully, WWE is getting the message and they will consider giving Rusev a bigger push. His merchandise sales were enough to put him in the U.S. title match at WrestleMania. The original plan for him was to put him in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal.
From my understanding, his merchandise sales are still strong. Check out the video below:
