WWE has announced that Johnny Saint will be the General Manager for the WWE United Kingdom brand. This is another step in WWE’s quest to expand their presence in the UK. Saint will presumably be the figurehead when they eventually launch their weekly UK show, something that the company has been working on for a couple of years.
Saint’s wrestling career spans over five decades and he is considered a pioneer in the UK wrestling scene. “Johnny Saint is somebody who does fancy reversals, but what made him a wrestlers’ wrestler is when he’d get gritty with his wrestling,” Daniel Bryan told WWE.com in 2013. “He entertained people through wrestling. He knew a million different holds. He’d go out there and always have fantastic matches. I wrestled him when he was 60-something years old and was still absolutely phenomenal in the ring. He was so good at what he did, technique-wise.”
Saint spent six months in the WWE Performance Center in Orlando last year as a guest coach. Last July, WWE posted a nice tribute for Saint as he departed the PC. Check it out below:
