Io Shari, one of the top female wrestlers in Japan (and the world), has accepted an offer to sign with WWE, according to Dave Meltzer. Meltzer will have more on this story on Wrestling Observer Radio and this week’s Wrestling Observer newsletter (subscribers can listen on WrestlingObserver.com).
This is a big blow to the Stardom promotion because their other top star, Kairi Hojo, recently left the company and will be starting at the Performance Center soon. There’s no word on when Shari will be starting with WWE.
Shirai had a tryout at the Performance Center a few months ago but she didn’t seem to have an interest in signing a deal but it appears that she has changed her mind. Shirai went to a 30-minute time-limit draw on Sunday so she retains her World of Stardom Championship which likely means that she will stay with the promotion for a little while longer so she can drop the title.
