UFC Fight Night 71 play-by-play results: Mir vs. Duffee

PRELIMINARY CARD (UFC Fight Pass, 7:00 p.m. ET)

Andrew Craig vs. Lyman Good

Round 1: They have a scuffle to begin the round in the center of the octagon. Good tagged him a few times with a right hook. Good did some good boxing, but Craig covered up most of those strikes. Good rocked Crag at the 30-second mark with a high kick then blitzed Craig.

Round 2: More of the same in this round to the previous round. Good is just so much quicker than Craig. Good landed an inside uppercut that led to Craig changing his game plan and clinching with Good. Craig landed a nice elbow once inside the clinch. Good landed a knee to the jaw of Craig and Craig fell to the ground. Good got the back of Craig, but Craig made it back to his feet. Good with a counter right that put Craig on his back. Good finished when on the ground.

Result: Lyman Good def. Andrew Craig via TKO (punches) – Round 2, 3:37

Ildemar Alcantara vs. Kevin Casey

Round 1: Alcantara three a kick to the ribs of Casey, but Casey bum rushed him and right into a takedown by Alcantara. Alcantara got into guard, but Casey popped his hips and got top position in guard. Casey with some big strikes from the top and then got the back of Alcantara. Casey beat the heck out of Alcantara’s ear and head with strikes. Casey finished the round in dominant position.

Round 2: After a dominant round on the ground, Casey decided to keep it standing for the majority of the round. He landed some good strikes, which he mixed up on Alcantara. Casey looked extremely comfortable in the octagon, which led to him being the more aggressive fighter. Casey hurt him with a big straight right that put him on his back. Casey ended the round strong with strikes while on top.

Round 3: This round lacked action to say the least. Casey tried to do some damage with his strikes, but Alcantara was doing his best to keep space between he and Casey. Casey landed a late round takedown.

Result: Kevin Casey def. Ildemar Alcantara via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

PRELIMINARY CARD (FOX Sports 1, 8 p.m. ET)

Igor Araujo vs. Sean Strickland

Round 1: Arajuno with an opening round head kick. Strickland with a good combo that stung Araujo. Strickland with a trip takedown and swarmed him with strikes while on top. Araujo made it to his feet with the wall walk, bnt Strickland blitzed him with strikes and hurt him with an uppercut. Araujo fell to the ground, which Strickland did not let up and continued to pour it on. Araujo held on, but Strickland continued. Araujo got to his feet, they exchanged in a wild frenzy to end the round.

Round 2: Arruejo came out and went straight for a takedown, but stuffed and Strickland pushed him off. Arruejo with a head kick followed by an attempted takedown, but stuffed. Strickland with a double leg takedown of his own into guard. Strickland worked him over with strikes from the top to end the round.

Round 3: Araujo shot in on a takedown, but Strickland blitzed him with strikes to keep him off balance and followed up with a double leg of his own. Araujo wall walked back to his feet. Strickland tagged him with a straight right.

Result: Sean Strickland def. Igor Araujo via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-26)

Masanori Kanehara vs. Rani Yahya

Round 1: Yahya with an instant single leg takedown to begin the round. Kanehara tried to his best to wall walk and get to his feet, but Yahya held him down. Yahya moved into guard, but Kanehara scrambled off his back and to his feet at 1:15. Kanehara three a front kick, but caught and Yahya went for a takedown, which he got.

Round 2: Yahya clinched and dropped down for a front face guillotine choke to begin the round. Yahya let it go shortly after. Moments later, the two were stood up and Yahya kicked Kanehara in the groin. Yahya looks tired as they go back to fighting. Yahya got a late round double leg takedown.

Round 3: Yahy with a low grounded single, but stuffed. Kanehara on top and works him over with strikes. Kanehara got the back of Yahya, but only for a moment as Yahya rolled back on top. There was not a ton of action in this round as both guys were gassed.

Result: Rani Yahya def. Masanori Kanehara via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

Jessica Andrade vs. Sarah Moras

Round 1: Moras is looking for an early takedown, but stuffed several times. Andrade with her own hip toss takedown but quickly stood up to her feet. Moras shot in, but ate a right hook by Andrade. They exchanged, Andrade got hurt, but instead of seeking and destroying, Moras shot in on a takedown that was stuffed. Andrade with a good combo that led to a short takedown as we break the two-minute mark. Moras pulled guard moments later with Andrade on top. Andrade with some hammer fists that allows her to get to her feet. Moras shot in but stuffed and Andrade landed a series of big hammer fists and elbows. Andrade made her way to her feet then dropped Moras at the end of the round with a big right hand.

Round 2: They clinched then Andrade landed a takedown early part of this round. Andrade in side control and landed some hammer fists. Andrade continued to pour it on with elbows. At 2:37, Andrade let her up and they went back to striking. At 2:16, Andrade landed a slam into side control. Moras is starting to bleed from her mouth from all of the hammer fists.

Round 3: Andrade got a trip takedown at the 4:18 mark. She transitioned into side control where she beat her down with some elbows. With those elbows, Moras face is a bloody mess. Andrade with a big left hook that dropped Moras and Andrade fell into guard. Moras transitioned to the back of Andrade and went for a rear-naked choke, but the bell sounded.

Result: Jessica Andrade def. Sarah Moras via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Sam Sicilia vs. Yaotzin Meza

Round 1: Sicilia instantly got a double leg takedown into guard. Meza tried to transition, but after some scrambling, Sicilia ended up in half guard. Sicilia went for a guillotine choke, but quickly let it go. Sicilia ended the round on top of Meza.

Round 2: Sicilia worked over Meza for the majority of the round while on top position in half guard. With two minutes remaining in the round, Meza got to his feet where they exchanged some big strikes. The round ends with a late takedown by Sicilia.

Round 3: Meza shot in on a takedown just moments into the round, but Sicilia stuffed it and got on top in half guard. Sicilia stood up with a guillotine choke, but after looking to have it, Meza got out and Sicilia went back to dominant control on top.  Meza went for a choke, an armbar and a triangle with just one minute remaining in the fight, but the sound of the bell put an end to his efforts.

Result: Sam Sicilia def. Yaotzin Meza via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

MAIN CARD (FOX Sports 1, 10 p.m. ET)

Matt Dwyer vs. Alan Jouban

Round 1: Jouban went in for a sweeping strike, but Dwyer caught him with a straight right. Dwyer pulled guard and went for a submission, but Jouban recovered and stayed on top. Jouban scrambled to his feet. Dwyer with a front face kick. Jouban with a counter right that dropped Dwyer, Jouban got excited and threw an illegal knee to the head. The fight was momentarily stopped. Herb Dean takes one point by Jouban. Back to the fight, with twenty seconds remaining, they exchanged to the bell.

Round 2: Dwyer really works the leg kicks in this round, which is making Jouban slower in not only his foot movement, but throwing strikes. Dwyer with a head kick that stunned Jouban halfway through the round. They exchanged in the pocket at 1:48. Moments later, they clinched on the fence. Jouban went a nice elbow. Jouban with a huge head kick at 1:07 remaining that dropped Dwyer. However, Dwyer got to his feet with a cut under his left eye. They exchanged in the pocket and this is turning into a slugfest. Jouban with a brutal shot to the body, that hurt Dwyer. Jouban with a cartwheel kick Dwyer to end the round.

Round 3: Both men are tired, but warriors as they battle through this round. Still an entertaining round that sees both fighters land some devastating strikes. Jouban with a late round takedown. Jouban with some big strikes, Dwyer transitioned into top position and landed some big strikes.

Result: Alan Jouban def. Matt Dwyer via unanimous decision (29-27, 29-27, 29-27)

Kevin Lee vs. James Moontasri

Round 1: Lee pressured Moontasri early on with a wide range of strikes. Both men exchange some crazy looking kicks. Both men then got poked in the eyes, which is very rare. Back to fighting, Lee got a slam takedown into back mount and worked for choke. Lee softened up Moontasri with strikes and then locked in the rear-naked choke for the win.

Result: Kevin Lee def. James Moontasri via submission (rear-naked choke) – Round 1, 2:56

Manny Gamburyan vs. Scott Jorgensen

Round 1: Jorgensen went for a powerslam takedown, but caught and Manny put in a guillotine choke, but Jorgensen got out. Jorgensen with a face lock that transitioned into Manny getting a quick double leg takedown. Jorgensen made it to his feet. Manny still hanging on from the back. Jorgensen connected with a low blow to Manny. Back to the action. Manny with a double leg takedown, but Jorgensen got to his feet. Manny with a big knee that dropped Jorgensen. Manny with a series of punches while on top of Jorgensen. Jorgensen back to his feet, but looks bad and tired. Moments later, Jorgensen recovered. Jorgensen is bleeding from his nose.

Round 2: Right out of the gate, Jorgensen got hit with a low blow. Back to fighting as Jorgensen is bleeding from his nose. They both worked for takedowns in this round and had some wild grappling exchanges.

Round 3: Manny is having trouble finding his range in this round. He started to become frustrated as Jorgensen is landing strikes at will. They exchanged to the bell.

Result: Manny Gamburyan def. Scott Jorgensen via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Holly Holm vs. Marion Reneau

Round 1: A feeling out process to begin the fight. Both fighters using a lot of different angles and kicks throughout the round. The fans were not happy with this round at all.

Round 2: They clinch at 3:43, but they quickly separate with Holm landing a knee strike to the ribs of Reneau. Holm with a good combo that was capped off with a body strike. Reneau tried to pull guard, but Holm caught her and slammed her down. Holm stood up, then let Reneau up.

Round 3: The fans were glad to see this fight come to its final round as they’ve been booing the entire fight. Much of the same from the previous rounds. At 2:47, Holm stunned and dropped Reneau, but didn’t go for the finish. Holm ended the round strong with a body kick and a good combo.

Result: Holly Holm def. Marion Reneau by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-26, 29-28)

Tony Ferguson vs. Josh Thomson

Round 1: Ferguson three a kick, but caught and dumped. Ferguson back to hsi feet, he threw a bunch of kicks at Thomson. Ferguson went for a flying knee, but caught and Thomson put him in the ground. Thomson on top, Ferguson went for a triangle choke, but THomson got out. Thomson on top in guard and works over Ferguson.

Round 2: Ferguson with a hug elbow that dropped Thomson then swarms him with a series of strikes on the ground. Ferguson with elbows while on the ground as Thomson attempts to get to his feet. Herb Dean says that Ferguson grabbed the fence and they are stood up. Ferguson clinches and then breaks away with a straight left. Thomson with a straight right. Ferguson with a straight right that rocked Thomson and cut him open. Ferguson dropped down and looked for the triangle choke. Thomson gets out of the submission. Ferguson went for a kimura, but Thomson got out. Ferguson ends the round on top of a bloody Thomson.

Round 3: Thomson is just throwing bombs to begin this round. Thomson is still bleeding pretty bad. The pace of this fight has slowed down quite a bit. However, the warriors kept the fight standing and finished the fight in an entertaining manner.

Result: Tony Ferguson def. Josh Thomson via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-26)

Todd Duffee vs. Frank Mir

Round 1: They come out swinging for the fences. Mir with combos that hurt Duffee. Mir with a big knee while in the clinch. Duffee clinched, put Mir on the fence then separated. Duffee with a big left jab that stunned Mir, but Mir answered with a counter left strike that put Duffee to sleep!

Result: Frank Mir def. Todd Duffee via knockout (punch) – Round 1, 1:13
