The main event of Bellator 140 was Douglas Lima vs. Andrey Koreshkov for the welterweight championship. This fight was not what most people believed would happen. Most thought that Lima would not be able to be taken to the ground and that Koreshkov would keep it standing. That was not the case. Koreshkov looked for and got takedowns whenever he liked. After five rounds of not the most stellar fighting in you’ll see by Bellator MMA. The judges gave the win to Andrey Koreshkov by unanimous decision.

Douglas Lima (26-7) is currently on a one-fight losing streak. In his last six bouts, he beat Jacob Ortiz in November of 2012 by third-round TKO, then beat Michaeli Tsarev at Bellator 86 by second-round TKO and then beat Bryan Baker at Bellator 90 by first-round knockout. He then finished Ben Saunders at Bellator 100 and then Rick Hawn at Bellator 117 in the second-round. He lost to Andrey Koreshkov by unanimous decision at Bellator 140
Andrey Koreshkov (18-1) is currently on a five-fight winning streak. In his last six bouts, he’s 5-1. He lost to Ben Askren at Bellator 97 by fourth-round TKO but then rebounded with four straight wins. He beat David Gomez in December of 2013 and then returned to Bellator MMA. He beat Nah-Shon Burrell at Bellator 112 by first-round knockout, Justin Baesman at Bellator 118 by first-round knockout and then a unanimous decision win over Adam McDonough at Bellator 122. He beat Douglas Lima by unanimous decision at Bellator 140
Here is the play-by-play from this fight:
Round 1: Koreshkov misses an opening round spinning back kick. Koreshkov shoots in on a double leg but stuffed and Lima clinches with Koreshkov on the fence. Moments later, Koreshkov gets a double leg takedown. Lima made his way to his feet but dragged right back down to the ground by Koreshkov. Moments later, Lima made it back to his feet and tagged Koreshkov at 1:40 remaining in the round. With thirty seconds remaining, Koreshkov got a double leg takedown.
Round 2: After a slow start to this round, Koreshkov shot in on a takedown but stuffed and Lima got on top of Koreshkov in half guard. Koreshkov scrambled off his back and to his feet. They exchange in the pocket, Koreshkov clinches with Lima and gets a double leg takedown.
Round 3: Koreshkov gets a single leg takedown about one minute into the fight. There’s not a ton of action in this fight and the fans are not impressed with this fight. Koreshkov on top position in half guard as Koreshkov starts to bleed from his head. Lima sweeps and gets to his feet.
Round 4: Koreshkov was the aggressor coming into this round. Koreshkov worked Lima with strikes that led him to back peddling and Koreshkov capitalizing with a single leg takedown. Lima sweeped from his back to top position, but Koreshkov scrambled and got back into top position in half guard.
Round 5: More of the same in this round as seen in previous rounds. Koreshkov controlled most of the fight with his clinch work and just did what he wanted with Lima.
