FOX Sports.com confirmed on Thursday that Rafael dos Anjos puts his lightweight championship on the line for the first time as he faces Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone on Dec. 19 for UFC on FOX 17.
The event takes place from the Amway Center in Orlando on Dec. 19 and will mark the final event of the year for the promotion.
Cerrone is coming off a TKO victory over John Makdessi back at UFC 187 to earn this title shot. He’s currently on an eight fight winning streak.
RDA beat Anthony Pettis for the UFC Lightweight Championship on March 14, 2015 at UFC 185 by unanimous decision in a dominant fashion, and once again earned him a Performance of the Night bonus award. After the fight, dos Anjos revealed that he had torn his MCL only a few weeks before the bout.
More fights will be announced for the upcoming card in the next few weeks.
