Shinsuke Nakamura announces his departure from NJPW

NJPW star Shinsuke Nakamura formally announced his departure from the promotion at a press conference on Monday. He was also stripped of the Intercontinental Title as well.

He said that his decision to leave Japan was to advance his career. He did not mention that he is going to WWE but did say that he feels like he has been “stuck in a rut” after helping out the younger talent in NJPW.

Nakamura will work the January 29th and 30th NJPW shows. Those will be his last two shows with the promotion.

As noted, Nakamura is scheduled to fly over to the U.S in early February to spend several weeks at the WWE Performance Center. He’ll also be doing his medical tests while in the country. This is standard procedure for all new WWE talent. If he passes the standard medical tests, then he will sign with WWE.
