John Cena appeared on ESPN’s SportsCenter on Tuesday night after the WWE Draft to talk to Jonathan Coachman. Coachman mentioned the WWE Draft and promoted SmackDown being live every Tuesday night. Highlights from SmackDown and Cena’s career were shown.
Coachman asked about the WWE Draft and how it will change how fans watch the product. Cena plugged the WWE Network and said that the fans are watching both ESPN and WWE Network at the same time during this interview. Cena followed up by hyping the WWE Draft and the brand extension and said that this is a new way that WWE will entertain the fans.
When asked about hosting the ESPY’s, Cena explained that it was nerve racking, but he was very happy with the whole show and thought it was very entertaining. Cena added that there were several good moments throughout the show. When asked if he met someone that meant a lot to him and Cena said that was former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning because he is a good person and has a great perspective on life.
When asked about Brock Lesnar failing two drug tests, Cena said that there was a lot of hype with Lesnar’s return to MMA and thought Lesnar did well in the fight. Cena said that when news like that comes out it always changes the way people think about his performance. Cena added that Lesnar has a hard road ahead of him. Coachman asked about the current WWE roster, Cena believes that NXT is good for the company as it produces more Superstars and thinks that WWE has three brands now. Cena said that the new Superstars keeps him young and thinks it is a great time to be a fan.
Cena will team with Enzo Amore and Big Cass at Battleground. Cena was asked about them, and he said that they made a good impression with the fans when they were called up to the main roster but believes that they have to be authentic throughout their careers to make it in WWE for the long haul.
Coachman brought up his injuries, Cena said that he always comes back from injury and noted that he is coming off a shoulder injury. Cena praised the passion of the fans and thinks WWE is the best at live entertainment. Cena said that younger Superstars and the fans keep him going. Coachman asked what is next for him, Cena said that fans can see him on SmackDown and that he has some projects coming up.
Cena thanked ESPN for having him on the show, and this wrapped up the segment.
