WWE has announced that Alberto Del Rio has been suspended for violating their wellness policy. He will be suspended for 30 days. That would be consistent with a first-time violation. WWE’s policy is not to reveal what the talent failed for.
WWE’s official statement on their website reads, “WWE has suspended Jose Rodriguez (Alberto Del Rio) for 30 days effective tomorrow, Thursday, Aug. 18, for his first violation of the company’s talent wellness policy.”
Del Rio lost to John Cena on this week’s episode of Smackdown Live. He was not scheduled for Sunday’s SummerSlam so it’s quite possible that WWE knew of his wellness violation before this week’s TV.
There has been talk about Del Rio having an “out clause” in his contract that could let him leave the company next month so we may have seen the last of him in WWE.
Ironically, the announcement of his suspension comes on the birthday of his girlfriend Paige.
