CM Punk says his weight cut isn’t going well, talks about current WWE lawsuit, UFC 203

CM Punk (0-0) is set to fight Mickey Gall (2-0) at UFC 203 and spoke with Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting about the upcoming fight. Punk seemed like he was having a hard time cutting down to welterweight (170lb) for the fight. Helwani asked Punk what his current weight is but Punk refused to reveal his current weight.

“When does this come out?” Punk asked. “It’s a thing I gotta do, it’s not going so well I guess.”

Punk added that the process of cutting weight wasn’t fun and that he has never done a weight cut in his life. Punk noted that the last time he weighed 170lb was when he was in high school but made it clear that he wasn’t worried about making weight for the fight.

Punk said that it was “poetic” that he would be fighting at the Quicken Loans Arena because it is the same place where he had his meeting with Vince McMahon and Triple H, which led to him walking out of WWE in January of 2014. Punk said that this is also the same place where Bob Holly punched him in the eye during a Christmas WWE house show loop. Punk added that he loved Holly and thought that the pro wrestling business needed more guys like him right now.

“There’s nobody in that locker room that in a good way, an enforcer.”

Punk said that he wanted to move on in regards to his previous life (wrestling) but there were people who wanted to keep sucking him back in. When asked if he was talking about fans, Punk referenced the current lawsuit with WWE doctor Chris Amman. Amman’s lawsuit against Punk and Colt Cabana will go to trial on May 21st, 2018. Amman filed the lawsuit after Punk ripped on him while Cabana’s podcast in late 2014 for the way WWE handled his injuries while he was still under contract with the company.

“I just mean the silly bankrolled lawsuit,” Punk said. “It’s designed to get me to spend money, that’s what it’s doing.”
