UFC 203 results: CM Punk vs. Mickey Gall

Well, the fight is over. CM Punk vs. Mickey Gall took place tonight at UFC 203 in Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena. As noted earlier, there were several wrestlers in attendance and many of them lending support via social media and tons of pro-Punk fans wishing him well along with a ton of MMA purists hoping to see Punk get his face punched in. So, you can imagine the amount of pressure Punk must have been under. Gall came out to Toni Basil’s “Hey Mickey.” Joe Rogan pointed out that Dana White nixed that song earlier in the week but changed his mind due to fans putting pressure on him on social media. Punk came out to Living Colour’s “Cult Of Personality.”

Gall took Punk down at the very beginning of the fight and then nailed Punk with punches while getting into side control. Punk used his feet to try to maneuver around the cage but Gall kept his control and into full mount and then he took Punk’s back. Joe Rogan said, “CM Punk is getting mauled.” Gall had full control of Punk’s back while nailing him with more punches. Gall then flattened out Punk and hit him with punches to the side of the head but Punk kept hanging on. Punk has balls. Punk finally submitted to a rear choke.

Punk was very gracious in defeat. He said some things to Gall but it wasn’t picked up by the microphone. Punk then held Gall’s hand up. Punk also gave Gall a big hug. Punk’s ear looks swolen and he’s busted up. It was a demolition by Gall but credit to Punk for hanging in there. The fight ended with 2:14 in the first round.

Gall said that he sees a lot of hate online and hate in general. Gall said, “f*ck the hate.” Gall said that he’s not a gimmick and “I’m not going f*cking anywhere.” Gall then challenged Sage Northcut.

Rogan interviewed Punk. Rogan said that he admired what Punk did. Punk said, “you know in life you go big or go home.” He said that he’s not giving up and he appreciates the support from everybody. Punk said, “I will be back” and it’s the most fun he’s had in his life and he knows that there’s a lot of doubters and life is about falling down and getting back up. He said that kids should not listen to people that say “no.” Punk said, “this is the time of my life. Thank you Cleveland.”
