An emotional CM Punk took part in the UFC 203 post-fight press conference after the pay-per-view.
Punk said that he is supremely disappointed but being out there was the best time of his life, second to marrying his wife.
Punk was asked if he wants to continue to fight at the UFC level. Punk said that he initially wanted to fight at the lowest level but then the UFC opportunity came along. Punk said that getting cut from UFC is a possibility but he wants to keep going and he wants to get back on the bike.
Punk was asked when he thinks he wants to get back in the cage. Punk said, “it’s a hard question to answer.” He said that he needs to go back to the drawing board and the plan was always to take some time off and his wife has put up with a lot. Punk said that he needs to work on timing but no excuses and Mickey was the better man.
Punk said that “Cult of Personality” is an awesome song and that’s why he used it.
Punk said that he and his coaches believed in him and he thought he was going to win. He said that he is still happy and he still loves it (fighting).
Punk was asked about his emotions before the fight started. Punk said, “they’re are steady as a rock” and he wasn’t nervous going into the fight.
He was asked if he was proud of himself. Punk then got emotional and said, “There’s probably an alternate reality where I win and I’m still disappointed in myself. That’s just who I am.” He added, “I’m just really really hard on myself. I lost and it sucks. And it was lopsided and it’s upsetting but I know I’m better than that.”
He was asked about his wife AJ Brooks. Punk said that AJ told him that she was proud of him. Punk’s coaches said the same but Punk feels like he let them down.
Punk said that he would be back in the gym on Monday if it were up to him but he will probably be forced to sit at home while his face and ear heals up.
He was asked about the smile on his face as he made his entrance into the Octagon. He said, “the switch got flipped. I was happy. I didn’t really think how the crowd would react but they showed me love and you can’t help but smile at that.” He felt that he felt happy and it felt good.
Ariel Helwani asked if Punk talked to UFC management after the fight. Punk said that he hadn’t talked to Dana White yet. Punk talked about his back surgery and he is super happy that his back didn’t bother him anymore after the surgery and he’s thankful.
