As we noted on Sunday afternoon, Randy Orton was pulled from his match at Backlash because of an undisclosed injury. WWE has not commented publicly but we reported on Sunday afternoon that the belief was that it was concussion-related.
Pro Wrestling Sheet got word that the reason why Orton was pulled was indeed because he suffered a concussion during his match with Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam. The initial tests indicated that he would be good to go. Apparently, he hasn’t passed the impact test or he would have been cleared.
It all makes sense because Orton has not wrestled a match since SummerSlam and he hasn’t done anything physical on television, other than the RKO to Wyatt at Backlash. Earlier in the show, they did a backstage segment with Wyatt attacking Orton’s leg. They used that to explain why Orton was pulled from his match.
We were told that WWE was hoping to keep this quiet in hopes that Orton would recover in time. Orton was also replaced by Kane at the house show in Raleigh on Saturday night. The company has not always been quick to release news on concussion injuries on their website because of pending or potential lawsuits.
