Chris Jericho has been silent since the news got out about his backstage confrontation with Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam up until this week. This week, he opened up on the “You’re Welcome With Chael Sonnen” podcast and pretty much confirmed some of the reports on what happened on that night following Lesnar’s match with Randy Orton.
“Well, anytime something like that happens, there’s always a lot of rumors and a lot of stories being told and that sort of thing.” He added, “I mean, not to get into specifics, it was basically between me and Brock [but] we did have a little bit of a bruhaha, shall we say.”
For those of you that have not heard the story yet, basically, Jericho and Lesnar got into it and had to be separated backstage at SummerSlam after Lesnar bloodied Orton with still punches and elbows. There was concern from Jericho because the finish of the match was kept a secret from most people in the company. Jericho said, “I think that happens when you get guys that are in a sport such as ours. It’s half entertainment and half real [and] half not. I think you get he had just come out of the ring [and] I had just come out of the ring an hour before or so and I just thought the finish of that match was very brutal and very violent and I just didn’t know if Randy was okay. I was just checking on Randy my friend. We have always been pretty close. I said something and he said something and next thing you know, we’re nose to nose, kind of yelling at each other.”
Jericho didn’t want to go into too much details on what happened but added that “it diffused pretty quickly, but, I mean, listen, let’s make no bones about this – Brock is a trained fighter and he’s a beast, but I’m not the type of person to back down from anybody, to my detriment or harmful to my existence even. But hot heads fire off and we were in each other’s face, and that happens sometimes. I guess I kind of have a reputation for it too. I’ve never backed down. I think sometimes in the case of guys his size, they think people are just gonna wilt and most people do, but that’s not me. That’s not my background. That’s not what I came up from growing up in Winnipeg and my dad’s lineage of being in the NHL, and it’s just not what I do, so, like I said, I’m glad he didn’t eat me. Basically, there was a face to face altercation. Like I said, I’ll leave the rest between the two of us.”
Sonnen asked Jericho if he feels like a mark now because Orton told Jericho that the finish of the match was how it was supposed to go down. Jericho said, “Afterwards, yea but it doesn’t make me a mark to go check on my friend. I was just saying ‘is Randy ok?'” Jericho said that he’s been in the business for 26 years and he can check on his friend and the finish of his match was not his business but when he sees his friend lying in a pool of blood then he wants to check on his friend because they have a 15 year history. Jericho confirmed the concussion reports too. He said, “That’s real blood. That’s a real concussion that he suffered.”
