Bruce Prichard explains why WWE dropped King of the Ring as a PPV event, comments on Sting

Bruce Prichard recently did a Q&A session on episode 22 of his “Something to Wrestle With” podcast. During the podcast, he talked about why the King of the Ring PPV was canceled. Prichard noted that Vince McMahon didn’t like it and that it was probably WWE’s lowest sales pay per view of the year. He added that it’s crazy that it was the lowest selling show as in the territorial days, the summer months were money months, but WWE usually had slower summer months. “The pay per views events during the summer didn’t do all that well, and King of the Ring wasn’t a large grossing pay per view, so Vince wasn’t really excited about it, and decided to change it up.”

When asked about if WWE was ever close to bringing in Sting while he was still in WCW, he noted that he was interested in bringing in Sting. He noted that he had talks with him back in 1989, but the talks were dropped. He added that throughout 1990’s WWE talked to Sting about him joining the company but Sting was a loyal guy to WCW and he stayed there and did very well for himself.
