Deadline is reporting that “The Pact,” which will star John Cena, has been greenlit by Universal and the film will be released on April 20, 2018. The production date has yet to be announced but the release date means that production will be starting sometime within the next few months and that would mean that Cena will need to take more time off from WWE, probably after WrestleMania 33. We noted before that Cena has a bunch of movie and TV offers on his plate and I would be shocked if we see Cena for more than 6 months on WWE TV this year.
Leslie Mann and Ike Barinholtz will star alongside Cena and the film revolves around three parents that find out a pact made between their daughters to lose their virginities at their prom. The parents launch a plan to put a stop to their daughter’s plans.
Cena is set to challenge for AJ Styles’ WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble and he is scheduled for WrestleMania. If the plan was for Cena to defend and retain the championship against The Undertaker at WrestleMania then this movie may have forced WWE to change course. It’s worth noting that they began teasing Braun Strowman vs. Taker this week so that may be the new match for Mania instead of Cena vs. Taker. During the past week, Vince McMahon has made changes to some of the planned WrestleMania matches.
