UFC Heavyweight Mark Hunt has come through on his promise to sue following his UFC 200 loss to Brock Lesnar and Lesnar’s drug test failure. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Brett Okamoto.
The civil suit, filed against UFC, Dana White and Brock Lesnar alleges that they “affirmatively circumvented and obstructed fair competition for their own benefit.” The suit stems from Hunt being upset after it was revealed that Lesnar failed drug tests around the time of UFC 200 and he has gone on record saying that he feels that there should be more action taken on fighters that are caught taking drugs not approved by USADA.
Hunt made it clear that he wants UFC to know that it’s not ok to allow guys (in his words) to keep doing this. He told ESPN.com, “They’re allowing guys to do this. They had a chance to take all the money from this guy, because he’s a cheater, and they didn’t.”
Lesnar’s failed drug test was for an anti-estrogen agent called clomiphene. He was fined $250,000 and suspended for one year by USADA. Hunt made $700,000 for the fight, far less than the $2.5 million purse for Lesnar and whatever Lesnar made on top of that from his pay-per-view bonus. Lesnar failed test was administered on June 28 but the results did not come back until after the fight. It is possible to get the results back sooner if a fee is paid. Hunt’s lawsuit states, “The UFC and USADA were aware of the option to expedite samples for a nominal fee but failed to do so.”
Hunt says that he has asked to be released from his contract but he can’t and he needs to work. Lesnar’s failed drug tests have no impact on his WWE career.
