John Cena is doing a hell of a job getting Kenny Omega over and his recent Instagram posts are adding more fuel to the rumors that say that Omega might be headed to WWE. As you can see below, he references Mega Man (Omega’s Twitter and Instagram username is @KennyOmegamanX) and Kenny from South Park. Omega’s contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling expires on 1/31 and he told Sports Illustrated that he has not signed a new deal with them.
Dave Meltzer noted this week that people in NJPW believe that he will be back with them and some people that know him are wondering if Omega is just milking the attention he’s getting from his amazing match with Kazuchika Okada at last week’s Wrestle Kingdom 11 with the intention of staying with NJPW. Whatever is going on with Omega, he seems to be making the right moves because, in the past year or so, he has made himself into one of the biggest names in the industry and he has done that without the benefit of WWE TV. I do find it interesting that Cena would take the time to promote someone that is not signed with WWE and, as we noted before, he sent out similar Instagram posts last year just prior to AJ Styles’ debut with WWE. If Omega does sign with WWE, then he could not start until February, at the earliest. If Omega stays with NJPW then a rematch with Okada is likely and NJPW will be running shows in California in a few months so that might be the time for Omega to finally win the IWGP Heavyweight Championship from Okada.
