A major match has been pulled from the WrestleMania plans, according to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter. About a week or so ago, Vince McMahon was leaning towards a John Cena vs. The Undertaker match but McMahon has changed his mind and that match will not be happening. The match was supposed to be one of the top matches at this year’s WrestleMania.
The Undertaker will hnot be challenging for the WWE Championship or the Universal Championship at Mania. He will be facing someone on the Raw roster. As many of you saw on Monday, they did tease that Braun Strowman had his sights set on Taker. Strowman vs. Undertaker was a match that was originally planned for WrestleMania 32 in Dallas but plans changed when they had to reshuffle the card due to injuries. I should note that Cena is scheduled to start filming a movie in a few months so, perhaps, that may have caused McMahon to make changes to the card because Taker is not going to wrestle a full-time schedule so there’s no way he would walk out of WrestleMania as champion and Cena won’t be around to defend the title after Mania.
The matches that we mentioned before that were still locked in are Brock Lesnar vs. Bill Goldberg, Triple H vs. Seth Rollins and Big Show vs. Shaquille O’Neal. They have also been teasing a break-up between Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho so that may also be a match for Mania with Jericho defending the United States Championship. The idea is to do six or seven major main event level singles matches at Mania this year so it’s going to be a stacked card.
I would assume that Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt would take place at Mania since they seem to be doing a slow tease towards a Wyatt Family break-up. Also, Bayley vs. Charlotte Flair for the Raw Women’s Championship will also take place at Mania. Their upcoming match at the Royal Rumble show is supposed to be a set up for Mania.
