The Royal Rumble is just a couple of weeks away and the Rumble surprise rumors start to pick up around this time. As we noted a couple of weeks ago, Kurt Angle has told promoters that he would not be taking any more independent bookings after March. His people have also said that he will be headed to WWE in April. Over the last few days, a rumor spread on social media about Angle being a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble.
If he is going to be a surprise then that would be news to him because he hasn’t been called yet, according to Dave Meltzer’s latest update. As of Friday evening, there have been no discussions with Angle about the Royal Rumble. That doesn’t necessarily mean anything either way because sometimes WWE will call someone at the last minute.
Angle will be on Lilian Garcia’s “Making Their Way To The Ring” podcast on Monday to talk about his role in the upcoming movie titled “In the Ring.” The film has been described as a “Major League-style ‘underdog’ comedy.” Angle (as Sledgehammer Sullivan) will lead a group of misfit wrestlers as they take on a multinational corporation and a rival “extreme” federation. The owner of that “extreme” federation is Matt Manson (played by Tommy Dreamer). Other familiar names like Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, John Morrison, Ken Anderson, Jay Lethal, Joey Ryan, Candice LeRae, Chavo Guerrero, Kevin Kelly, Nick Aldis, Chad Lail (aka Gunner), Dalton Castle and the Briscoe Brothers will also have roles in the movie.
