Now that Samoa Joe is slotted on the Raw roster, it’s pretty much confirmed that he will not be facing John Cena at WrestleMania. Since most of the card has been mapped out, Cena was the odd man out without a major match.
According to the latest Wrestling Observer newsletter, the plan is for Cena to team up with girlfriend Nikki Bella and they would face The Miz and Maryse in a mixed tag team match at WrestleMania. Within WWE, there were people rolling their eyes at the idea of that match because it seems like a waste for John Cena to not be featured in a major match.
There have been unconfirmed rumors on social media about Nikki Bella retiring at WrestleMania so I could see why Nikki and John would want to team up for her last match. Also, on last week’s episode of Smackdown Live, Natalya told Nikki that “John will never marry you.” On Total Divas, they’ve always pushed the story that Nikki wants to get married but John has not been ready to pop the question. This is just speculation but if Cena plans on proposing to Nikki then doing so at WrestleMania in the middle of the ring after their match would not be such a bad idea. I’m sure WWE would love that idea because it would generate tons of publicity for them.
The Miz has been great in recent months and Smackdown Live has re-energized his career so this is not a bad slot on the card for him.
