As most of you know by now, Roman Reigns vs. The Undertaker is one of the big matches planned for WrestleMania. It’s an interesting match-up because fans will clearly be solidly behind The Undertaker and there’s very little WWE can do to get fans to cheer fo Reigns over Taker.
Vince McMahon has been wanting to make this match for a long time and Undertaker’s health does not guarantee that he’ll be around for next year’s show so this may be McMahon’s only chance to make this match. Apparently, there has been talk about this match being a generational passing of the torch to Reigns.
It’s not clear if WWE wants to give Reigns a heel run for this feud and afterward but the long-term plans are still for him to be the face of the company. There are several things they can do for this match. Reigns could win and Taker can endorse him or Taker can win and the idea could be that Reigns losing would humanize him and Taker can still endorse him.
As noted a couple of days ago, Taker was clearly hurting during the Royal Rumble match and he was not fully recovered from recent hip surgery. He still needs hip replacement surgery but it’s something he is trying to put off until he retires.
