Cody Rhodes recently spoke with CBS Local Sports about various topics. During the interview, he was asked about Impact Wrestling’s new ownership, which is Anthem Sports & Entertainment. He said that he was really impressed by the new owners and brought up that he met with them at the first taping he wrestled at. He said that it was really nice to see a revitalized situation as he has heard about the negativity towards the promotion. He said that the last time he was at an Impact Wrestling TV taping it had double the crowd size compared to his first taping and noted that they have a streamlined production. “The production of TNA and WWE’s NXT is very similar in that it’s classic studio wrestling. You’ve got fans on two or three sides, and it’s designed more for cameras in terms of studio wrestling. I’d encourage people, if they’re critics or TNA or have heard only bad things, to check it out at some point. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.”
When asked if he misses WrestleMania season, he said that the road to WrestleMania always gets people buzzing but noted that they’d fallen off a little bit with popularity but thinks that WWE will get the fans to come back around this time. He said that he doesn’t feel any longing for it or has any nostalgia over it. He brought up that he just wrestled at Wrestle Kingdom last month in front of 40,000 fans in the Tokyo Dome. He said that people told him that it’s a lot like WrestleMania but he didn’t believe them until he got there and saw the scope of the event. He noted that everyone was talking about the main event with Kazuchika Okada and Kenny Omega. He said that it hasn’t really him yet and maybe it’s because he was with WWE for so long. I’m doing only a few shows during WrestleMania week that happened to be in Orlando. I kind of don’t want to be around the WrestleMania experience, not because I don’t like it or [don’t] want to be around my friends, but because like [with] any job, 10 years is a long time be anywhere.”
