ORIGINAL: The whole Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather social media hype may turn into a real boxing match. The Irish Sun is reporting that they are very close to signing a deal and they have come to terms on a multi-million dollar deal. Their source said, “Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather have agreed a deal to fight and have both settled on their respective fees.” The only thing holding up the signing is a third party, which would likely be UFC. Dana White had previously offered them $25 million dollars each but both sides turned it down so I would presume that they have come to terms on money far higher than what UFC was offering.
The report cited cited sources close to Mayweather’s Straight Blast Gym by saying that an announcement could be coming within the next couple of weeks. They also reported that McGregor would be flying into Las Vegas soon to finalize details with Mayweather’s team.
Mayweather is the current UFC Lightweight Champion but does not have any fights scheduled yet for this year. He is in a great leverage position as UFC’s biggest box office draw (Ronda Rousey is considering retirement). Mayweather is undefeated and has not fought since 2015 but, even at 39 years old, he would likely be the favorite going in against Mayweather.
McGregor has been in talks with WWE but there’s no word on how those talks are progressing. There’s been nothing on a possible WrestleMania appearance and he would likely want more money than WWE has paid athletes and celebrities in the past. With today’s news getting out about the McGregor-Mayweather fight, this might be the thing that gets WWE to offer McGregor more money for an appearance and/or wrestling match since his stock is going to shoot way up from the publicity surrounding his potential boxing match. Mayweather worked with WWE in 2008 when he competed in a match against Big Show at WrestleMania 24 in Orlando.
