WWE Hall of Famer Terry Funk was recently interviewed by Justin Barrasso for Sports Illustrated’s Week In Wrestling column. During the column, he spoke about how much wrestling he watches these days. He noted that he still loves to watch it, which is why he doesn’t watch because he loves it too much. He loved what he did for all of those years and is happy with what wrestling as evolved into. He noted that he likes the athletes that are in it right now and believes that there are a lot of talented people in the wrestling world right now.

He brought up if part time performers are taking top spots from young talent at shows like WrestleMania. He noted that he prefers to call them fresh-timers as they’re pulling people in from the outside with a fresh taste to it. He noted that they (WWE) had a tremendous following with the fans and noted who hasn’t heard of a Brock Lesnar or Goldberg. He added that there are many people out there who want to see what is going to happen when you put those two into the ring

Finally, he brought up Paul Heyman and ECW. ““Paul Heyman knows shock value, and he was able to find talent. He could find guys who were great, but he could also pull guys out of a hat and make them successful.” He noted that Heyman has a great mind for pro wrestling and he existed when Vince McMahon wanted to destroy everybody and was attempting to do so. He said that ECW was a very physical form of entertainment and was in an era that was more physical than today’s wrestling.
