David Arquette has returned to the professional wrestling ring. The former WCW World Heavyweight Champion wrestled under the name “King” David Arquette last night (Sun. July 15, 2018) at a Championship Wrestling From Hollywood event in California.
He was defeated by RJ City after going one-on-one in singles competition. Although he did lose, Arquette was still able to get some offense in before being defeated. He hit RJ City with a Diamond Cutter before gesturing the DDP-inspired taunt to the crowd to go along with it.
You can watch some highlights from Arquette’s match below, via Pro Wrestling Sheet:
Arquette got his foot in the door of the professional wrestling world when he co-starred in the 2000 film “Ready To Rumble.” The movie was based on two friends, Sean and Gordy (played by Arquette), helping a fictional former WCW World Champion, Jimmy King, return to greatness and recapture the title from Diamond Dallas Page.
Soon after the film’s release WCW decided to bring in Arquette for actual storylines on Nitro. He ended up winning the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, which was a huge black eye on the business and was largely credited for the promotion’s eventual demise.
He was with the company for only a few months and WCW went out of business and was purchased by Vince McMahon in 2001. After his WCW run he appeared on an episode of WWE SmackDown in the crowd as a fan in 2002. He then returned to Monday Night RAW in 2010 and teamed up with Alex Riley in a Handicap match against Randy Orton in a losing effort.
