Kane had recently returned to WWE TV on SmackDown Live to reform Team Hell No with Daniel Bryan. The pair unsuccessfully challenged The Bludgeon Brothers for the SmackDown Live Tag Team Championships. Unfortunately “The Big Red Machine” suffered an injury during the bout and his run came to an end.
Prior to being elected Kane faced some criticism from Haney about continuing to wrestle in the middle of his campaign. Haney said she believed the people would want a mayor who has some “common sense” and is ready to lead:
āI was really stunned to find out he was still pursuing it,ā Haney told the Knoxville News Sentinel. āI thought it was in the past.
“I thought in this crucial time heād want to be here and be with the people. Being an entertainer doesnāt make you a political figure. It may get you some votes, but I believe people want someone with common sense and who is [ready to lead].ā
