Update on lawsuit between Randy Orton’s tattoo artist and WWE/2K Sports

We have an update in regards to the lawsuit between Randy Orton’s tattoo artist, Catherine Alexander, and WWE/2K Sports.

Several months ago Alexander sued the two companies after alleging the tattoos she did on Orton were original designs. She did not give them permission to be recreated in the video game. She is suing WWE, Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., 2K Games, Inc., 2K Sports, Inc., Visual Concepts Entertainment, Yuke’s Co., Ltd. and Yuke’s LA Inc.

WWE and 2K previously argued that the United States District Court of Southern District of Illinois, where the lawsuit was filed, doesn’t have jurisdiction over them, and attempted to have the lawsuit dismissed.

In response, per PWInsider, Alexander claims that “the court does not have personal jurisdiction over each entity because they chose specifically to aim their alleged infringement of her copyrighted work directly in the State of Illinois and because when previously contacted, WWE offered her a payment of $450 for the rights. ”

Her response also included copies of six copyright applications in relation to the assorted designs dated back to March of 2018. The court has ordered that all discoveries in relation to the case wrap up by January 7th. A settlement conference on April 16th has been scheduled.
