Rey Mysterio’s contractual negotiations with WWE continue. It looks like there has been some progression in those talks, however. The former WWE World Heavyweight Champ was previously scheduled to appear at a Northeast Wrestling event next week.
Now the Mexican star has been forced out of the appearance. Northeast Wrestling took to their Facebook page to offer an explanation. They cited Mysterio’s “upcoming contractual situation with WWE” as the reason for his inability to make the appearance:
“Unfortunately due to his upcoming contractual situation with WWE Rey Mysterio is unable to appear on August 24th. If you purchased Rey Mysterio preordered meet and greet items they will be refunded or can be used towards other superstars.”

Mysterio has made two one-off appearances for WWE in the past several months. He worked the traditional Royal Rumble match in January and also did the Greatest Royal Rumble match in Saudi Arabia in April. The two sides have been negotiating to try and get Mysterio under contract for the past several months now. Here’s what he had to say to The Miami Herald on the negotiations recently:
“We started off with the Royal Rumble at the beginning of the year in January,” Mysterio said. “There was another offer on the table to do the Greatest Royal Rumble, and in between those two events, we’ve been going back-n-forth in conversations, trying to work out the right deal…It’s still up in the air. Nothing secure, yet.”
