Following SummerSlam and Smackdown Live, it was clear that the rivalry between AJ Styles and Samoa Joe would continue into next month’s pay-per-view.
The match is official. WWE has announced that Styles will be defending the WWE Championship against Joe and it will happen inside the Hell in a Cell. Styles was disqualified on Sunday after destroying Joe at ringside with several chairshots after Joe referenced Styles’ wife and daughter during the match.
However, Joe got revenge on Tuesday night when he attacked Styles during an interview segment. The Hell in a Cell match will be their latest match in a long rivalry that dates back several years when they wrestled against each other in TNA Wrestling.
This year’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view will take place on Sunday, September 16 at 7 pm eastern. The other match announced so far for the show is Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella taking on The Miz and Maryse in a Mixed Tag Team Match.
