John Cena opens up on advice he’s received from The Rock

Although John Cena and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson are on good terms these days, there was a time where they had differences in their viewpoints.

Rock returned to WWE part-time from 2011–13. During this time, the former WWE Champion beat Cena at WrestleMania 28 in Miami, Florida then the next year at WrestleMania 29, Cena beat The Rock to win the WWE Title in New Jersey.

Part of the storyline for this feud was the fact that Cena wanted Rock back in the WWE and make more appearances than he had been due to his successful career in Hollywood. Now, Cena sees why Rock was away from the WWE now that he is starting to have success while acting.

Cena recently spoke with The Sports Daily about various topics including any advice The Rock gave him.

“The Rock has been genuine enough to tell me to be myself. I think it was great advice. It came right at a time when I needed it. I tried some movies before, and they weren’t really successful. The reason I was doing those movies was trying to create a business model. Then I looked back at myself and realized I just like telling stories. He gave me some pretty cool advice at unbelievable timing. He said: ‘Hey man, they’re going to like you, or hate you, for you. Be yourself. At least that way at the end of the day you’ll feel good about your body of work.'”
